Every fall The Department of Art, Communications and Theater at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) students and printmaking club, ink, and print over-sized hand-carved woodblocks under the drum of a 2-ton steamroller. The event occurs downtown during the annual Ranch Hand Festival in the city of Kingsville. The steamroller print event takes the studio practice of printmaking onto a communal stage. This grand public event introduces the audience to relief printmaking while allowing artists to work on large-scale prints. The steamroller print event generates an environment of community engagement, teamwork, and education. TAMUK participates in and supports the PrintAustin steamroller event.
